Marc Recio, MS, OTR/L, CFL-1

Long Island native, Marc Recio, fused his passion for athletics and therapy to be able to give back to his patients in a meaningful way. After growing up in Commack, Marc attended Ithaca College where he studied Occupational Therapy receiving both his Bachelor’s and Masters’s Degrees. While there, he was also elected defensive captain for his collegiate football team. Knowing that he wanted to use his rigorous knowledge of the body from the classroom and the sports field, he went to work as an occupational therapist at a 600-bed sub-acute rehab facility in Manhattan, an affiliate of Mt. Sinai and NYU Langone’s cardiac care. In this setting, he worked his way up to supervisor of occupational therapy. Looking to get back to his Long Island roots and gain experience in pediatric care, he expanded his breadth of knowledge and experience by working at St. Mary’s Hospital for children, treating medically fragile children as a home care therapist.
As a lover of fitness and competition, Marc pursued CrossFit where he would compete in higher-level competitions throughout the United States, both as an individual athlete and as part of a team. He continues to compete as well as teach functional fitness classes in a group setting to a variety of ages and abilities. Marc’s varied experience in healthcare and fitness has furthered his appreciation of maintaining and regaining function in people’s everyday lives. This is a philosophy that he continually abides by and implements in his daily practice as a clinician.
In order to help others regain function, Marc becomes interested in working in outpatient hand therapy and joined the ProCare Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy team. He is currently working towards attaining his hours and experience to allow him to sit in on the Certified Hand Therapy board exam through the mentorship and guidance of CHT Amanda Paracat. He is eager to further pursue his goal of becoming a board-certified hand therapist.
