Marissa Polonski, PT, DPT

Dr. Marissa Polonski grew up locally in Middle Island, New York and graduated from Longwood High School in Middle Island. Marissa then attended Adelphi University where she was on the dance team for two years and graduated with her bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science. Marissa’s interest in physical therapy began after meeting, her now brother-in-law, who endured an accident over in Iraq which left him paralyzed from the waist down and seeing all that he was capable of performing due to his physical therapists. Following her undergraduate education, Marissa was accepted and attended Stony Brook University’s Doctorate of Physical Therapy Program graduating in June 2019.

While attending Stony Brook University’s Doctorate of Physical Therapy Program, Marissa had the opportunity of having clinical rotations in a variety of settings including, inpatient rehabilitation at Island Nursing and Rehab Center, sports rehabilitation at Max Effort Physical Therapy, inpatient Rehabilitation at St. Charles Hospital and outpatient rehabilitation at Goodman Physical Therapy. She also had the opportunity to attend the APTA Combined Sections Meeting in New Orleans, in February 2018, where she furthered her knowledge and learned from some of the most well-known researchers and physical therapists around the world. It was this conference that further sparked Marissa’s interest in orthopedic and sports rehabilitation.

Outside of physical therapy, Marissa enjoys traveling and staying active whether it be at the gym or finding a new hiking spot. In the future, Marissa would like to attend courses to further her manual skills in the sports and orthopedic world, and would like help to promote injury prevention and conditioning in the dance community.
